REFLECTION

This was a mentoring course that really turned out to have great reward for me. Dr. Collins really allowed me to create a widescale project that I ended up implmenting. It was cool because I had to break down everything and think of a different way to do mentoring through movement during the top of the pandemic. I enjoyed it because so many people were sad but I was able to create something that made people not only happy but get up and move.

I also used technology during this project. The first event I hosted is very well structured. I used Facebook Live, Zoom and Instagram to pull off this virtual live stream. The live stream was hosted through a private Facebook group. I selected around twenty people (a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced) of the hundreds that have signed up to send a Zoom link to. That Zoom link allowed me to see them as I teach. This helped me gauge what the hundreds that I can’t see may be struggling with as I teach -- thus allowing me to correct myself in real-time. The program lasted for an hour and a half. I did account for unforeseen circumstances that amounted to an extra 30 minutes.

Movement Clinic Series Mentoring Plan

My entire mentoring plan changed in light of the coronavirus sweeping the nation. I decided to take a different fitness approach to online mentoring. I hosted a successful series of online stroll/ dance/movement clinics via Facebook Live and Zoom. This series of events was branded and promoted to different groups of people I happen to be involved with. The first event was branded specifically for my sorority sisters. Some of my sorority sisters from all across the world are planning to join me online for the first time on April 11, 2020, at 4 p.m. eastern time to mobilize and learn some moves to stay mentally healthy and physically healthy. Participants were expected to learn and leave knowing and understanding the importance of movement. This was a fun twist on traditional online mentoring. Intermediate and advanced participants were able to execute the skills taught in class. Beginner participants should see a growth in movement confidence and a growth in excitement about movement.

This event was SUPER successful! More than 700 people showed up to the class and it receved GREAT REVIEWS! It was a great break from everyone during COVID.
