REFLECTION

EDTC 5310 was the very first course I took in the program back in Spring 2020. It was an introduction to educational technology. We learned about a variety of different digital tools including screencasts, podcasts, blogs and more. My professor allowed me to cater my work to the newsroom as opposed to a classroom. I also loved that I was able to utilize blog posts and such in this course. I was able to create some pretty great and informational blogs in this course that will be very useful in my career.

However, the artifact that I really enjoyed creating was regarding my use of digital tools in the newsroom. I was able to show myself that I do use technology on the daily and my technology plays a large part in the way we distribute news. I really enjoyed that I was able take Dr. H behind the scenes of the tools used to determine what news we share with you all.

ARTIFACT

Here is the blog post I made on April 13, 2020:

Today, I am going to show you all how I navigate through content using two apps to decide what is important to our viewers for the day. The apps featured in the video are called CrowdTangle and Chartbeat.

I decide what is important to our viewers based on numbers. I used two applications: Crowdtangle and Chartbeat. These two applications are explained more in the video, but essentially one follows social media engagement (likes, comments and shares) and the other follows website clicks. I showed how I use both in conjunction to decide what is important to the viewers that day. Being able to navigate this applications will ease the stress of choosing assignments for that day.
